The DUFF by Kody Keplinger

Title: The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend
Author: Kody Keplinger
280 pages, September 7th 2010, Poppy
Goodreads' synopsis: "Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “the Duff,” she throws her Coke in his face.

But things aren’t so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.
Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone."
Not as good as expected.
This book is a super cute read. It was a fast read, too. There was just one very big thing that made me not love it: the writing. All the characters seem kind of like the stereotypical characters, and it didn't feel like the author really connected to them, which made me not connect to them. Actually the entire time while reading it, I was reminded of how much I didn't buy much of the stuff in the book.
A lot of bad things is happening to Bianca, her parents are getting a divorce, her ex-boyfriend is getting married, and her dad may or may not be drinking again. She just needs a distraction, enter Wesley. All of these stuff are, of course, super bad and I get that she would react the way she does, I just don't buy any of it. It seems like a whole bunch of stuff was just thrown in to make her do what she does. It all happened so fast, and it wasn't really developed fully.
And without spoiling too much, it just went on and more things were added that really didn't need to be added. Despite all of that, though, I did like the book. It wasn't the best book EVAH, but it wasn't all bad either. It was funny, and it held my interest enough to have me read it to the end.
