Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. Each week you have to make your own Top Ten list. This week the "question" is:
Top Ten Words/Topics That Make Me Not Pick Up A Book
Wow, already Tuesday again. That week went by so fast.
1. Adult
I don't know if every book is like this, but usually adult books is written with an adult protagonist, and that really makes not want to pick up the book.
2. Children
Usually children's books are written with a child as the protagonist (again not everythings, and sometimes I do read children fx. Harry Potter), and I hate to read a book with a let's say twelve year old protagonist, it annoys me so much how their problems just doesn't seem like very big problems to me. I don't know how to explain it, if you read the Riley Bloom series by Alyson Noël you may understand what I mean.
3. Poetry
I don't understand most poetry and also it kind of stresses me out when the layout is all weird (example to what I mean).
4. Non-Fiction
I just can't seem to find a topic that interests me unless it is written as fiction.
5. Sudden change in POV
When a book is written in one point of view and then suddenly 150 pages into it the point of view changes to another character in the book just because the author wanted to write a scene to get us to understand things better. Please no. Either you decide to skip between a two, like in Perfect Chemistry, or a few people, like in Cassandra Clare's books, but not just whenever you feel like it, and where it makes no sense. If you want to write a few chapters from another point of view because you want to get into that character's head or whatever, then great, that is what Novellas are for.
6. Fairies
I just don't get them. I read The Iron King, and it had great characters, but that is the only reason why I might read the rest. I really didn't like the whole fairy deal.
7. Various countries
So far I haven't been able to get into a book, where it wasn't set in the US, England or France (Not including Between Shades of Gray that is set mostly in Siberia, because that one was great!).

And that's what I could come up with right now.
I HATE SUDDEN POV CHANGES!!! They annoy me soooo much! There needs to be some sort of pattern otherwise I'll go nuts!!!! I also won't read poetry! It's sooo confusing!!! And off topic, YOU'RE READING A GREAT AND TERRIBLE BEAUTY!!! LOVE THAT SERIES AND AUTHOR!!! Great list!

Haha, happy I'm not the only one. :-)
DeleteI don't know what it is with A Great and Terrible Beauty, but I just can't get into it. I'm on page 86 right now. It kind of makes me sad, because I really want to love this series.
I am with on fairies, non-fiction, and poetry! Have you read Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor? That is set in Czech Republic. http://wp.me/pzUn5-1Ba
ReplyDeleteI have that on my to-read list. I thought it was set in the US or something. I guess I'll have to see what I think, and maybe that will make me add a country to my list. :-)
